FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Parents
in our community can help save lives by participating in a Workout Against Cancer to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The event, scheduled for Saturday,
January 21, 2006, is sponsored by Wee Workout in Los Osos. Parents are invited to bring
children ages three months through five years old to participate in an hour
long workout. The wee ones will jump and climb, spin and swing, bounce and
roll, and dance and sing. “The impetus for hosting this event came when
two-year-old Eliana Nunley, a student at Wee Workout, was
diagnosed with cancer in August,” said Sally Crescioli, owner of Wee Workout. “Our goal in
holding this event is to help children like Ellie who are battling diseases
like cancer, AIDS and sickle cell disease.”
St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for
its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other
catastrophic diseases. Founded by the late entertainer, Danny Thomas, and based in Memphis, TN, St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with
scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for
treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never
asked to pay. St. Jude is financially supported by ALSAC, its fund-raising
organization. In 1962 when the hospital opened, acute lymphoblastic
leukemia, the most common form of childhood leukemia, was only survived by four
percent of our patients; the current cure rate is now 85%. For more
information, please visit www.stjude.org.
The money raised in this event will
help to ensure that children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases
will have a better chance to live. To participate in this exciting, beneficial
program, registration information is available by contacting Wee Workout at 226-8310.
